others和the other長相類似，意思相同嗎？什么情況下使用？怎樣用？它們在考試中也經常出現在完形填空或者選項中。今天做一下探討。
一、others
1.others是代詞，其意思是“別的，別人，其它，其他人”，相當于other+名詞，它在句子當中可用作主語。比如：
Others saw it as a betrayal.其他人都視它為一種背叛。Others have met similar problems.其他人遇到過同樣的問題。Others doubted whether that would happen. 在這三個例子中，others用來做句子的主語。
2.others可以用作動詞的賓語或介詞的賓語。比如：Don’t stand aside and let others do all the work.不要袖手旁觀，工作都讓別人去做。Babies rely entirely on others for food.嬰兒完全依賴別人喂食。Most of her life was spent in caring for others.她大半輩子的時間都用來照顧別人了。
二、the others的意思是“其余的，其余的人”，相當于the other+名詞，表示在一個范圍內的其他全部。可以在句子中作主語、賓語。比如：
I walked back while the others rode in the car.別人都乘車，而我是走回來的。The others are a long way behind.其余的人遠遠地落在后面。The others held back uneasily.
其他人不安地往后退縮。

三、the other
the other的意思是“兩個當中的一個”，經常和one連用，也就是one… the other…，在句子當中可以做主語，賓語，介詞的賓語。
1.the other 可以在句中作主語。比如：I can’t tell one twin from the other.我分不出雙胞胎中誰是誰。I have two skirts，one is green，the other is yellow.我有兩條裙子，一條是綠色的，一條是黃色的。
2.the other可以作賓語。比如：Each of us help the other.我們倆互相幫助。He held pen in one hand and books in the other.他一手拿筆，一手拿書。
3.the other+名詞，作定語也是很常見的，表示“另一，另一些”。比如：I work on the other side of town.我在城的另一邊工作。He sets an example to the other students.他為其他同學樹立了榜樣。The other children mocked her, laughing behind their hands.其他孩子學她的樣子，用手捂著嘴笑。
